Year 6
Year 6 at Lavendon School
Year 6 is the final and most significant stage of Key Stage 2, where children consolidate everything they have learned throughout their primary years and prepare for the exciting transition to secondary school. This year is about academic achievement, personal growth, and equipping pupils with the confidence and skills they need for the next chapter of their education.
Morning Learning
Mornings continue to focus on English and Mathematics, with targeted teaching to ensure pupils master key concepts and apply them effectively. Writing tasks challenge children to produce work that is accurate, creative, and well-structured, while mathematics lessons develop fluency and problem-solving skills across all areas of the curriculum.
Afternoon Curriculum (Our Learning Expeditions)
Afternoons provide a broad and balanced curriculum, including science, computing, geography, history, design technology, art, and music. Lessons are designed to deepen understanding, encourage critical thinking, and allow pupils to explore topics in greater depth. Independent projects and collaborative tasks help children develop resilience, creativity, and a love of learning.
Technology and Digital Learning
Technology continues to play an important role, with pupils using digital tools to research, present, and reflect on their learning. These experiences prepare children for the demands of modern education and support their independence.
Personal Development and Transition
Weekly PSHE and RE lessons focus on personal growth, wellbeing, and preparing for life beyond primary school. Children learn about responsibility, resilience, and managing change, helping them feel confident and ready for the challenges of secondary education.
Statutory Assessments (SATs)
In Year 6, pupils complete the Statutory End of Key Stage 2 Assessments (SATs) in English and Mathematics. These tests provide an opportunity for children to demonstrate their learning and progress. At Lavendon School, we prepare pupils in a supportive and balanced way, ensuring they feel confident without unnecessary pressure.
Looking Ahead
Year 6 is about holistic preparation—academic, social, and emotional—so that every child leaves Lavendon School ready to thrive in secondary education. It is a year of achievement, celebration, and growth, marking the culmination of their primary school journey.
